Red Robin Gourmet Burgers

Red Robin will make its debut in Jacksonville as early as spring next year. They will be one of many tenants going in to the new Town Center Promenade, which will be located across the street from the St. John’s Town Center.

Red Robin began as “Sam’s Tavern” in the 1940s. The owner, Sam, sung in a quartet band and constantly whistled the old tune “When the Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin’ Along.” He eventually changed the name of the little Seattle restaurant to “Sam’s Red Robin.” George Kingen bought the restaurant for expansion in 1969, dropping the “Sam’s” from the name. He built the company up for the next 10 years and finally, he franchised it in 1979.

Red Robin serves up all sorts of food, but they are most popular for their burger selection. Their menu features “Gourmet Burgers” and “Tavern Burgers.” They have regulars like your standard cheese burger or a bacon cheeseburger, but they also dish up unique burgers such as the A.I. Peppercorn (bacon, melted pepper-jack, peppercorn spread, onion straws, and tomato), the Prime Chophouse (horseradish-sautéed mushrooms, steak sauce, provolone, Dijon, and onion straws), and the Nacho Crunch Tavern Double (onion, tomato, pepper-jack, tortilla chip strips, and a cheddar cheese sauce made with lime, chile, and creamy ranch). They offer a veggie burger, and a turkey burger, too, for patrons who aren’t a fan beef.
