Springfield's Make it Happen and Dancy Terrace Open House
« on: June 19, 2013, 12:47:09 PM »
From PSOS (www.preservationsos.org)

Embarking on our 5th Make it Happen neighborhood event, we have opted this year to "help ourselves" so to speak. PSOS owns 8 of the 24 bungalows and has a direct connection to owners of 6 other bungalows. We maintain the entire courts grounds monthly and keep a watchful eye on this Springfield treasure. We have strategically placed this year's event with the monthly Main Street Car Cruise as we want to invite the Cruisers to see transformation (albeit slow) and potential of Dancy Terrace. Our goal is to... paint the window boards black & add sashes, and add minor landscaping. As the event draws closer a specific list of needs and jobs will be posted.

IN ADDITION to the traditional Make it Happen, we will also host an Open House, making available a minimum of 14 of the bungalows open for interior viewing, including the one mothballed bungalow. We will have a barbeque lunch for the Make it Happen volunteers, and for the afternoon Open House during the car cruise a reception with wine and cheese and eats.

Saturday, July 27, 2013: 9 - 3 p.m. Make it Happen, and 6:30 p.m. Open House.

Dancy Terrace is parallel to Main Street (east side) and between 9th and 10th Streets.

Always a great day to get out, work alongside neighbors. It can be hard work, but always for the betterment of the neighborhood. I've always found it rewarding, to work hard, enjoy the comradery, the laughs and pride in seeing a job well done.

The plan:
Paint the window boards black and add sashes (about 70 total windows)
Spruce up the grounds with general trash clean-up and shrub cut-back (we maintain monthly mowing for the whole court)
Enjoy a delicious barbeque from Tony and Karla along with neighborly company from friends in the hood
Come back in the evening during the car cruise and enjoy a reception/open house and explore the interior of 15 of the 24 bungalows (some remodeled, some original) [bonus: we'll serve wine!]

9 a.m. at Dancy Terrace (9th Street side)  See you then!

Here are some supply donations that we are requesting:
4x8 sheets of plastic lattice
2x4s (at least 4' long, 8' and longer preferable)
(used fine) gallons of trim paint
Paint brushes
Rollers
Trash bags
Paint cups and buckets
Paint rags
Cases of water
Cases of Gatorade

What can you bring to use yourself?
Yard care "stuff"  (rakes, gloves, trimmers, weed whackers)
Fancy paint brushes and rollers for your use
Skil Saw
Cordless Drill
Empty buckets and paint cups
Chair to relax in
Sun umbrella
Large awnings (we will need shade!)
Coolers of ice

If you can commit to a donation, please post here or email: preservationsos@yahoo.com so we can keep track.

Additionally, if folks would consider donating $10 (or certainly more) towards the cause, we could cover a lot of Dancy Terrace with collective donations.  Donations can be made via our website http://www.preservationsos.org or given the day of the event.

We appreciate the support.

Tomorrow!  9 a.m.!  See you at Dancy Terrace on the 10th Street side, near the blue mothballed bungalow.  While the grounds are mowed, we do need shrubs and bushes cut back, so bring those clippers!

Check out Amanda's blog about the neighborhood event for a recap of the event details:

Great success today.  Tons of people -- some from outside of the neighborhood -- to help Make It Happen!

Tony and Karla fed us VERY well. (as always).
