one last thing- Jimmy- Firehouse is ok- as is Angies but if you eat subway you are one of the uninformed victims
of the best mass marketing in history- subway uses a poor product which is all fillers and turkey based- in fact if you get the BTM and let it sit alittle it turns BROWN- but if price is your concern rather than your health then go subway

You may not believe this, but I choose a place to eat based on many more factors than just the ingredients used in preparing the meal. Convenience is often a factor.  Price, not so much.

I can see your conclusions-I worked for national meat company, so I know what shops are using-My family owned Arts Hoagy Hut- it's in my blood.

OK what meats does firehouse use then?  Jimmy Johns?  Angies (overrated)?

Jimmy Johns does use a pretty decent product- I certainly would have no problem eating there and I have.
They buy some of the medium grade carando products and have others packed for them under their own label.
Firehouse went to every maufacturer that Larry's uses and picked a lower grade because they didn't want to pay the price, but them again it's still a good enough product- Angies I don't know about but I like the product.
Subway has a 22- 25% food cost while the better quality shops run 33%

Jimmy John's plans Riverside restaurant

Submitted by Gary Mills on February 20, 2012 - 1:54pm Dining Notes

Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwiches is coming to Riverside.

The Champaign, Ill.-based sub sandwich chain plans to open a restaurant at 630 Park St., in the former AJ’s on Park Street barbecue joint that closed last fall.

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation recently approved Jimmy John’s site plan review for the restaurant. Following the Feb. 3 deadline for invitations to bid to renovate the 2,100-square-foot restaurant, building permits were issued on Feb. 16 so that work could begin to renovate the exterior, and demolish and clear the interior.

The building opened in 1984 as a Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuits. In 1996 Toby’s Barbecue set up shop, followed by the short-lived Sharx Wings & Grill and, finally, AJ’s on Park in early 2010.

The Riverside location will be Jimmy John’s sixth in Jacksonville since it first opened a location at Tapestry Park just two years ago. It will open under an Atlanta-based franchisee that operates two other area Jimmy John’s – 1725 Hendricks Ave. in San Marco and 7159 Philips Highway on the Southside.

Just three months ago, Jimmy John’s fifth Jacksonville restaurant opened at 11702 Beach Blvd.

Awesome news for Brooklyn!!!!!!!!!!!  It's not too much closer to me than the hendricks location, but I'll be sure to give it some business.

I was at the top of the BofA building last week and I was staring out at Brooklyn for some time.  It's isolated, but it's also a pretty compact area with a lot of great things already in place.  it won't take that much to get that area turned around.  Once the area gets some momentum, it will quickly become a very cool neighborhood.

Subway meat is disgusting. Their "Cold Cut Combo" is ham, salami and bologna and they are all just turkey. It even says it in fine print on their menu. I am sure that was a result of a lawsuit.

Couldn't agree more. Very exciting news. I also think Brooklyn has a ton of unrealized potential.

Agree. Subway meat is mystery meat, end of story. No idea why this place has the "healthy" reputation. Their meat looks akin to a Spam-type product.

the problem is just about anything and everything that has opened in that spot has closed shortly thereafter....but, if anyone can survive, Jimmy Johns can

I think Jimmy John's will do a little better than Sharx Wings.

Most JJs deliver too, which should help them expand their presence in the area.

They have no minimum on delivery either.    It blows my mind when I see the delivery guy walking inot the office with one sandwich for somebody.
