Quote
Jacksonville police are investigating a double shooting that took place outside a nightclub parking lot late Friday.

Sgt. Mike Perry with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said off-duty officers were working as security at the Bourbon St. Station on South St. Johns Bluff Road near Atlantic Boulevard.

Perry said the officers were alerted to reports of gunfire about 10:30 p.m. at the parking lot located across the street from the club. The officers discovered two men outside on the grass and dirt lot suffering from gunshot wounds.

The two men, whose ages and names were not released, were transported to a hospital and were reported to be in stable condition.

Close both it and Plush and raze the buildings to the ground.

Won't do any good to tear down clubs.  Violence is a societal illness and tearing down hangouts won't help.  The problem will remain as long as society (and politics) feeds it.  I will keep my soapboxes to myself, however.  Talk among yourselves...

What are you looking to accomplish with closing those places down? Doing so will not eliminate the problem.

Well I can't really teach everyone manners and to be decent but would it be such a loss to the community if these places were gone? Bourbon St isn't as bad, or at least it wasn't a few years ago but Plush is just gross.

When you destroy an anthill in your yard, what happens?  They go and build another one.  You can keep tearing down clubs/hangouts all you want, but as long as that element of violence and wrongdoing as survival (in their imagined world) remains in people, they're just going to rebuild or move their "anthill".  The problem lies within the person, not the building.  Suffice it to say that until society regains its social mores (I can hear it already, 'you're living in another era')...yep, but it was an era that did not have these problems as rampantly as we now do.  Society, individual conscience and even religion dictates how humans behave - or not, if it's no longer 'cool' to be a decent human being.  There's no shame anymore in anyone, unless you're chastised for being politically incorrect - which fuels this fire in the first place!  So we either "nut up or shut up", basically.  We made this mess.
