I for one do not think these issues are more prevalent today than they have been in the past. I personally feel that they are reported more so it appears that they happen more often.

via facebook: On October 20, 2009 a newborn baby was found in a garbage can at 9819 Beach Boulevard. An unknown caller called 911 and the police asked for help from the public in trying to identify the caller. The caller was identified because of a tip.
We got an overwhelming response from the public and the suspect who called 911 has now been charged. Demetrius Lamont Clark, 37 years old is charged with Contributing to the Deliquency of a Minor, Unlawful Sexual Activity with a Minor, and Child Neglect.
Investigation led to the identification of the mother, a juvenile, who had been reported missing for over a year from Endicott, New York. The beautiful baby girl that was found in the garbage can is doing well.

http://www.news4jax.com/news/21401861/detail.htmlAbandoned Newborn's Father Arrested Police Say Man Took Baby From Her 17-Year-Old Mother
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The man who called police about a baby who was abandoned in a trash can outside a Southside storefront church earlier this week turned out to be the newborn's father and is now under arrest, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The baby girl, covered in blood with her umbilical cord still attached, was found about 4 a.m. Tuesday in an overturned trash can in front of the Greater Works Christian Ministries in the 9800 block of Beach Boulevard. She is recovering at Baptist Medical Center.
On Wednesday, police released the man's 911 call and a surveillance photo believed to be of the caller in hope to find him and learn more about the identity of the baby. On Friday morning, police said an overwhelming response from the public led them to Demetrius Lamont Clark.
Investigators learned that Clark, 37, was the father of the baby and took the baby from the 17-year-old mother, abandoned the child in front of the church and called 911.
"I swear I saw a woman put something in front of Greater Works Ministries," the caller is heard telling the 911 operator. "I think it may have been a baby. I swear I thought I heard it."
Police said Clark is charged with child neglect, unlawful sexual activity and contributing to the deliquenc of a minor. They said the mother, a runaway from New York, appeared to also be a victim in the case and will not face any charges.
"Apparently as she gave birth, he immediately took the baby and left the residence and dropped it off in the garbage can and came back and told her what he had done," said Lt. Robert Schoonover, who deals with sex crimes and child abuse.
Both the mother and the newborn will remain in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families while the investigation continues.
"The baby is still in good condition," Schoonover said. "Everyone is saying she is a beautiful little girl."
Police said under the safe haven law, parents are allowed seven days to drop off newborns at fire stations and hospitals, no questions asked, but abandoning a child anywhere else is a crime.

not at all man. The police are doing a very good job of disseminating information on their facebook page.
This crime was shocking and I think you are right on when you talk about the conscience of a society.
Luckily there was a happy ending. I didnt know that you could drop off unwanted babies at firestations, I bet they didnt either.
But at least the did do the right thing and called 911.
The mother being only 17 years old means that the girl was probably 16 when they got involved. She has been a missing person from new york ever since.
I cannot imagine what her parents must be going through and thinking. Or what she was thinking for that matter.
An all around tragic situation.
Maybe they will have the chance to make a better path than this low point.

I for one do not think these issues are more prevalent today than they have been in the past. I personally feel that they are reported more so it appears that they happen more often.
Sorry friend, good wife Libby, was a crime victim advocate in Oklahoma. OSU being one of the only schools in the nation that teach such a degreed course. Different then "other" studies at the university, this one involved everyone from state police, to park rangers, Federal Agents, tiny town cops, swat teams, and the Coast Guard! EVERYONE! The OKC detectives holding phd's teach the core, and as such the students are part of OKC law enforcements team. It was like being on the inside, we went to all the cool hangouts of the "cops and robbers", saw the films, read the books, and had to type the entire freaking criminal codes of the state, and explain how a certain case would apply to each one. That was the most massive university project I have ever seen... Bottom line, the uniform crime statistics don't lie, and our "civilization" is going to hell on a rocket sled! All bet's are off as the perps get younger and younger and the crimes sicker then one could imagine. We viewed a snuff film, involving a beautiful 2 or 3 year old boy, sleeping, then carefully molested...progressively violent until the perp starts carving him up. I was allowed to see it because each officer's family became a sort of giant support or family system. Doctor Johnson, Libby's professor, thought it a good idea for me to be with her, as he did with many other husbands, wives and or partners. We had to be prepped to even see the damn thing, issued barf bags, and I'm telling you the VA doesn't have enough Valium in the country to have put me to sleep for about the next month... and these guys were SELLING THIS SHIT until the cops and Postal Inspector caught up with them. I still become visibly shaken by it, even writing this response. These predators are the sickest, most vile things to crawl out of the scum of the abyss since Lucifer was booted out of Heaven. Any cops on here will tell you the same thing, it is getting worse at an ever accelerating rate. OCKLAWAHA

I could be wrong because I haven't thoroughly researched it but from these statics http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/glance/viort.htm and these statistics http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/glance/hmrt.htm it appears that crime rates are falling.

And the mug shot - doesn't the remorse shown in that man's eyes just melt your heart. I have my own opinions on what's wrong with our society, and I will keep them to myself, but what does everyone else think can fix it??
