Man, I sure hope so.  Should go a long way to improve the perception that all construction has seemingly sceased, especially because it will be so close to the highway.

That isn't considered a low-rise, that is a mid-rise first off. Secondly, how can it not be noticed, it's right beside the FW Bridge.

I was at the Hospital Thursday and they were clearing the site of some recent demolition.

By most of the standards I can find 12 stories 195 feet is either the upper end of mid rise or lower end of high rise.

By code standards it is considered a highrise building.

I wonder if this means the 4 story office building will be moving forward as well?

I noticed today that they are clearing a large lot just south of I-95, between Baptist and San Marco Blvd.  I wonder if it will be used for parking.

Well, maybe the credit lines are easing and the economy is recovering; this is good news not only for the Southbank but hopefully for the other projects that were put on the shelf as well.

I like it, the architecture that is, it's not a high rise, tall or super tall but I'll take it. It has to be noticed...look at it's location, right next to I-95 on the Southbank.

I'm just appalled that this design went to Atlanta instead of staying local.  I hate to see decent projects always going out of town for the design.  Can anyone teach me as to why this seems to continue to happen???

It is a good design and a positive addition to the Southbank/San Marco area.  It is amazing how people can negatively criticize good design and economic growth in this economy.

hightowerlover: being tall doesn't make a building good, but it does call attention to it's bad design.  You need to learn a little bit about architecture and design prior to making uninformed public comments.

Hurricane: I agree with you, but unfortunately Jacksonville doesn't have a strong group of truely local healthcare architects.  GSP is the only one and they are actually based out of Nashville, TN.  A hospital is a highly specialized building where long term experience is needed, so it is understandable why they felt they needed to look beyond our city limits, its unfortunate, by understandable.

I like the design but I don't mind other opions. Gives us more to talk about. Diffrent people bring diverse points of veiw. You do not need to be an expert to express what you do or do not like. I myself would love to see more big buildings in town.

Is it 2011 yet?

According to the Building Construction engineers, this project was dead a month ago. Did the city all of a sudden come alive because of the downtown fountain? Who knows, but DVI gets paid to spread good news about downtown. Just be careful to make sure you chew this news, it may just be hot air.
