In the case of WingHouse, their lease was up and the landlord wanted to increase by about 25%....apparently they were doing just fine and hope to re-open in a new location sometime next year.

25%?? Who was their landlord?  Smart move on their part, but I hate that they had to go through all that trouble.  I love wing house.

When did RBS in 5 Points go out of business? I noticed it's "5 Points Antiques" now.

Though i never visited, that place was there forever......

Wow.  thanks for reminding me of that tufsu.

July was indeed the worst month this year of the general economy, all indicators were at their bottom, and it was also the single largest uptick in bankruptcies (which is what I actually predicted) and there were no signs of 'green shoots' at all.

Its amazing how closely the timeline of this is mirroring the timeline of the midwestern shutdown following nafta

That's what it says on their website, via Metro's page.

The rent they were being charged was too much, so they decided to downsize, which was a good idea.

Plus, they also had a problem with people under age going into the store, specifically the adult section. That would've caused a HUGE mess to say the least.

Ahh yes, I was young and innocent, and still knee deep in the creek catching tadpoles.

...Until I stumbled across that "back corner" in RBS.   ;D

I just drove past the ruby tuesday at the beach (marsh landing) and they're tearing the building down.
I didn't see any signs of what they're going to put up (if anything).

Aww, such a loss to Marsh Landing, not.

They're also doing some demolition in the South Beach Regional shopping center near Edwin Watts Golf.

Wendy's on St Johns Bluff closed also. - That was where the shooting took place, as well.

July was only a bad month compared to the previous months, when the numbers come out for August, you will see that back to school was abismal, and this will lead to August with bad numbers. Face it, the consumer is hurting and not spending. The 22 billion paid off in July of Credit Card debt shows people are scared to spend.

Suprisingly enough, residential real estate is doing quite well for single-family houses and first time home buyers.
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

It makes sense that more and more people are opting to eat at home rather than splurging on restaurants these days.  Like I said somewhere else, I haven't been shopping in a regular mall in years.  I've stopped in a couple of places but didn't buy anything.

Applebee's in Julington Creek just closed in the last few days. Getting a little crazy down there. There is so much empty retail space down there, it is going to take years before it starts to turn the other way. Several of the new strip plazas built on that area in the last 2 years have never had tenants! Yet they continue to build more...Just dont get it?

Applebee's overall has been hurting for years, and I'm not surprised at all.
