 JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The Princeton Review has named the University of North Florida as one of the 50 best value public colleges in the country. The New York-based education services company recently ranked the top 50 public and private colleges. The Princeton Review based its rankings on surveys of administrators and students at more than 650 private and public colleges and universities. Bottom 50 for parking though. How do you think they keep tuition down? By overselling parking permits, they can then make up for low tuition by charging all of those parking tickets they collect. |

well they did add a new parking lot on the north side of campus and a shuttle bus system this year.

FYI, FSU was #5 in that list (out of the top 10 public schools)
New College Florida was #2 (who the heck???)
UCF and USF were also on the list.

New College is a former branch campus of USF, located in Sarasota. It severed ties with USF in 2001 to become the 11th independent school in the Florida State University System.

Well in one fell swoop, we're back to the subject of lousy transit service AGAIN. BTW the Federal government has "University Transit" grants that are quite generous... sort of makes one think, "What if". Any school shuttle bus service can be converted into a complete community bus line through the program. Imagine, buses to STJTC, Beach, Beaches, Kernan, Southside, Hodges and San Pablo all with a UNF hub.
The idea to connect the 'new' campus shuttle service to the student apartments on Kernan was discussed but UNF was apparently against it. I heard the apartments offered to help with the costs but they still said no. I think if they extended the shuttle to SJTC it would be extremely popular. I know a lot of students go to SJTC for lunch but hate moving their cars. Even if they made SJTC cover some of the costs, I imagine they would be made up in sales pretty quickly. I'm still shocked that the campus is only served by 2 bus lines. |

Are the apartments on Kernan UNF housing? UNF is one of the most dense campuses I have ever seen. Especially considering it's surburban setting. JTA shuttle service between St. Johns Town Center would be cost effective and popular but all current resources are currently tied up shuttling the homeless people around downtown for free. If you find this disturbing please contact the mayor, JTA and your city council representative.

I believe New College has always been high on the list. I do not remember seeing FSU before though. |

I went to Penn State and that campus has high density. All of the buildings on Penn State are only on half of the land that the school has - Beaver Stadium is actually in the middle of what the university owns so half of it isn't developed. I think a study on State College would be great as it has a vibrant downtown and campus that work well together. Congrats to UNF |
