The "Camel City" days were during the era of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco's heydays with their Camel cigarette brand. Similar to Winston-Salem, Tampa was called the "Cigar City" during its early 20th century cigar manufacturing days.
Yes, I assumed Camel City was referring to the tobacco heritage. Just had never heard that name. My first job at 14 was pulling tobacco in the evenings and on the weekends for $3/hour. Plus a nice country meal at noon on Saturdays (we started at 6:00am and went until noon).

Btw... Tobaccoville is about 15 miles from Winston-Salem and the place for filming a recent Hollywood movie.
