Walking San Marco Square: Photo Tour

Although not as heavily promoted as it should be, San Marco Square is an artsy shopping, dining and entertainment district just south of downtown. It has become one of Metropolitan Jacksonville's trendiest  shopping and dining destinations.

This is a nice tour of San Marco, it truly is a neat place. So, many cool stores and restaurants, nice to see that not everything in Jacksonville is bad and we dont have to travel too far to see how to do things right Downtown.

Great tour...San Marco is definitely one of the loveliest spots around. One correction though, it's Balis Park, not Bails.

"East San Marco will include Jacksonville's first urban Publix grocery store" - this statement is not correct. Riverside is home to Jacksonville's first urban Publix grocery store.

Riverside's Publix is still a strip center with a large surface parking lot.  What makes it unique to Jax, is that the strip retail shops line the street, as opposed to parking.  Other than that, the Riverside Publix is urban in the same way the Winn-Dixie is on Market street or the Gateway Publix is.....location only.

On the other hand, the San Marco Publix will be contained in a 5 story structure, with parking being vertical, as opposed spread out over the site.  This leads to a project with a much higher density and impact on the surrounding community.  So maybe for better understanding, we should refer it as Jacksonville's first urban "designed" Publix?

They will both be urban by location . Not sure if  "first urban designed Publix" would be fitting either. The Riverside Publix was also designed with the consideration of the urban area in which it is located. Doesn't really matter, the photo tour was very nice.

Cool, we'll just refer to it being the first Publix locally, to take up space in a vertical oriented mixed-use structure. :)

Hopefully, the core will soon see several more grocery markets and retail stores designed in the spirit of both the San Marco and Riverside complexes.  Those are things we can never have too much of.

Great tour.  I love rediscovering the different area of Jacksonville.  I've been here 10 years and there is still so much to see!

Its great to see this city getting developments that cities (metros) 2 and threee times our size are just now seeing.  As much as we feel behind the competition, we are actually well ahead of the curve in many areas by comparison.

Great photos guys!  I enjoyed the tour.  It is always interesting to see familiar areas through other people's eyes.   :)
