According to one of our posters, there will be three new "entertainment-based" businesses announcing they are establishing a downtown presence.  They should be announcing within 1-2 weeks.

This is big news!

Anyone want to speculate who/what they may be?Huh

Here is more info...

It turns out that there are presently three entertainment based establishments that will be announcing that they will be opening downtown.  Nothing national, local places.

Wow Driven1, who knew you could get so excited by anything having anything to do with downtown development?

You must have been simply blown away then by Lakelander's recent posting of the following SIX NEW BUSINESSES  just yesterday:

insider scoop?

um ok.

well i guess I can see your point, since you live somewhere out in the suburbs and many of us live and work in downtown.

Not to mention go to the board meetings and committees etc.  I never really thought of it that way, I guess.

But I guess metrojacksonville does provide a great service by getting the input of the people who are actually there at the meetings where stuff like this is discussed and decided.

But you could do the same thing, Driven, just by coming downtown every now and then and talking to any of the business people.   None of them know you now, but of course that would change if you wanted it to.

Believe it or not, more happens downtown than people throwing bombs at the mayor.

Oh, I'm sorry Mr. Dare.  I thought you had said you heard these things at your secret downtown meeting and that you were asked not to reveal who it was at this time?  I only took that to mean it was kind of "insider information".  I apologize if I misinterpreted.

Thanks, Tony, as I said, I should have some more info on the three places later on today.   One of them I know is the new place by one of the posters on this board, Triclops.

I can let him speak to that however, and as it happens, he has already alluded to it in another post.

Ian Ranne owns the super popular and totally wonderful Shanty Town pub in Springfield.

I don't want to spoil his surprise,---and I really don't have a lot of detail anyways, but he is one of them.

Tony, lol...i think we needed you to step in there!  Newbie or not, you were needed!

Now, yeah, I heard about Ian's newly proposed place too...actually, I think I read that somewhere.  Can't wait to see the other 2.  I've been to Shantytown no less than 7 or 8 times Mr. Dare.  Surprised I have not ran into you there ever.

Im a non smoker, and very seldom drink.
During cold weather the options for smoke free air were limited.
I love the place though, as well as Ian and Marianne.

Ian is also a pretty brilliant DJ and has many times provided all of the ambiance for the Soul Release Performances at Boomtown.

Ah yes! I've known Ian for quite sometime, last time I started talking about his project on here he told me to shut it until he can make an "official announcement" haha....  That project i'm pretty stoked about.  I'll look foward to hearing about the other two when you make an announcement

Shhhhhhh!  You are in danger of breaking the secret codes of our Secret Meeting Brotherhood of Secrecy and Secret Things.

We arent really making announcements, incidentally.  The subject came up as a matter of conversation in another thread and Driven1 created this thread to try and put me on the spot.

However there does seem to be some interest on the part of our non trolling posters.

Apparently the working name of the club going in next to Nicky G's is the Ivy Club.

The owners have done due dilligence for the past three months, after the landowner tried unsuccessfully to help a club called Metropolis open in the same space.

The new group outright purchased a full liquor liscense for the establishment and has a projected start date of May 1st.

No information about the music or theme of the place yet.

And having toured the space today, I would predict at least three months before any opening as there is still extensive plumbing to do before its ready for a bar or bathroom.

Sorry about that, didn't mean to break into your skull&cross bones society thread! And yea announcement was the wrong wording, damn corproate world's brainwashing me with their business speak!  that makes it seem very formal like you're at a dinner clanging on some wine glasses.  *ding ding ding* I have an announcement to make...

I was wondering what happened to metropolis, apparently it was going to be " a club unlike anything Jacksonville has seen" which was the last thing I heard about it.

thanks for the info sir!

not a problem Tony, and I think they were very accurate in their projections, although it would have been more accurate to say A club like anything Jacksonville has never seen"

They apparently had very good intentions.  The ownership team was a man and wife plus the brother of one or the other.

They had a falling out and fell short of the funding.   It happens alot.
