Last week I was in Jacksonville Beach for the first time in about two years and was surprised to see so many businesses closed. What happened out there?

Atlantic Beach, on the other hand, was more lively than ever.

Some businesses have closed but I am not sure I would say "so many businesses closed".

How has the beach been doing since the installation of paid public parking?

It looked pretty bad to me. Fionn Maccools was the only thing left in that courtyard area. There is an entire strip center boarded up along with several other buildings.

I guess the huge amount of vacant property has been there a while, but it was much more glaring this time. It looked like a hurricane had passed through. http://g.co/maps/v3qnx

^Most of the closures on First Street in Jax Beach are due to the road construction. Life should return when that's finally done, considering what's going on throughout the rest of the Beaches, including the Town Center.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

^I agree. The construction killed that strip of First Street this year.

I thought a Sushi bar or something was going in where the Atlantic was.

But overall compared to the rest of the Jacksonville area, it seems like the Beaches is fairing pretty well.

^The Asian fusion place going into the old Atlantic spot is still a go, as far as I know.

It's definately a go, Scott Ostrander (formerly of 'Town) is going to be the executive chef.  Menu looks really impressive.
