Mellow in Avondale?

Seems to be the buzz...

Also, The Pier in Jax Beach closing for an upscale Mexican restaurant, same ownership group, styled after Cantina Laredo-esque menu.

That sounds like an idea that will fail.

apparently that idea may have died quickly...after announcing it on facebook earlier yesterday, it was taken down last night.

It's always busy in there... they just couldn't control their food costs with the current menu/margins.

Believe me, if Bucketts and Campeche Bay can survive all these years... a place like the Pier can survive in that building with better cost control measures.  It's really a phenomenal space.

Trust me I know. My family practically used to live at the First Street Grill. They were so looking forward to making The Pier a weekly spot but they were very, very underwhelmed every time they went there. When I read it was going to close and re-open within days as a Mexican restaurant, I cringed a little.

Please not the jinxed building that was most recently Ruan Thai.  For the record, I loved that place, but the location doesn't seem to work.
