Vinos vs Bistro AIX
« on: June 17, 2011, 05:05:28 PM »
Saw a little tussle why trying out Vino's Pizza Grill, somehow or another, and I did not see this, there was a vinyl sign on the Vino's building for Bistro AIX. Vino's employees say it was hung in the middle of the night... Anyway while we were there about 6 police officers, a fire truck and god knows who else showed up to take down the sign, you could tell the owner of Vino's was fuming, not sure why JSO was involved unless someone was considered trespassing but I get the distinct feeling the cops were more on the AIX's side of things but they got the banner down. Very strange.

As for the food was good for a buffet 6.99 all you can eat. Tables are a little cramped though.

Weird -- didn't really think they'd be competitors per se.

I was riding my bike around San Marco and noticed Vino's had tossed little bags with ads in them into people's driveways... I've always found this form of advertising (littering) to be particularly distasteful.

Stan's is right up the street and they make a mean grilled cheese for less than $5.  No wine list tho.

Coincidentally, I ate at AIX yesterday for a $100 lunch and 2 hours of my time that I really want back. The service was deplorable, the menu (the lunch menu anyway) sucks, and the food was mediocre at best. They gutted their wine list, there were only two things I recognized on the whole list, everything else was that <$10/bottle low-end small producer California crap, e.g. questionable quality but high profit-margin for them.

And I never knew there was such a thing as a $14 grilled cheese sandwich, so I figured I ought to try it out for kicks. It was literally the same grilled cheese you'd make in your kitchen in 5 minutes, spruced up with some stale allegedly-homemade chips and a pretensious menu description. And an hour-long wait to get it.

It has been awhile since I'd been there, and we were driving by so I figured what the heck. About halfway through, at the point where there only thing you could do was either walk out or laugh about it (and since we were still hungry we chose the latter) I remembered why I quit going there in the first place. At this point, I'll try Vino's out of retribution!

I'll try it out. I liked grilled cheese sandwiches.

Sounds like the owner of AIX Bistro is unethical and immature.

Sounds to me like we really do not have all the facts...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Yeah.... I'm going to say you're flat out wrong.  I don't know who is responsible, but I can promise you that  neither Terry and Mike Schneider nor Ann Riley have been anything less than stellar.  I can't vouch for Tom Gray, but the Schneiders and Ann are wonderful people and have been above reproach despite what has apparently transpired recently.  Lets leave the snap judgments and ignorant accusations to the TU posters.

Chris, I would like to forward your comment.  I think the owners would be horrified to hear how poor your service and food were.  There is no justifying the price you paid for the food and service you received.

I can vouch for Tom Gray.  He is a quality guy... and AIX is a quality restaurant.

I made the statement based on this thread. I did this to rattle up the whole thread. I am glad you and few of others are coming and filling in the void of the stories.

I personally have been to AIX, and I had a great time there with a friend. It has a good atmosphere and the place is well maintained.

But seriously, $14 for a grilled cheese? My grandmother would slap you for that.
