20 West Adams opening in November? Print E-mail
Friday, 12 October 2007

One of downtown's longest running reconstruction projects is ambitiously scheduled to be complete next month.

Originally built in 1911 as the Southern Drug Company, the Kimmick Corporation is redeveloping the structure into a 38,000 square foot mixed use development.  When complete next month, 20 West will contain 16 large loft apartments, office space, and restaurant/retail at street level.

All 16 apartment units will be finished out according to each tenant's specifications.  Leasing rates are negotiable.

All south units will have large balconies taking the place of what used to be an alley.  The apartment portion of the development takes up the 3rd through 6th floors.

Parking for 20 West will be provided in the Police and Fire Pension Fund garage on the corner of Main and Monroe Streets.

A view of the first floor retail space.  Developers are interested in securing retail/dining entity as quick as possible.

Re: 20 West Adams opening in November?

they could open in november if they use pre-made rooms, similar to what they do on cruise ships.  even then, they'd have to have an army of workers.  i wonder if they'll try to do something about the view of the other vacant buildings.

Personally, I think November 2008 is do-able, if they get to a more typical construction pace.

I talked with someone who works at the Loop's HQ and he said that the City backed out on incentives for them so the Loop was not coming in that space.  Originally it was to be a franchise owned by the same guys who own Chew but they have apparently moved on.

A parking garage is proposed next door, as a part of the One12 development.  When that goes up, the view of the vacant buildings will be gone.
