Fake look alike tickets part of money grab scam? Print E-mail
Friday, 09 March 2007

Downtown parking lot operators, including Central Parking System, are engaging in the questionably legal act of issuing their own parking tickets to downtown visitors and residents. These parking citations are designed to look like an official city citation, but instead of directing the payment to the tax collector, as required by law, it illegally demands that payment be made to Central Parking System, located at 550 Water St. Suite 1343.

Left out in the rain (and the sun) Print E-mail
Thursday, 01 March 2007

We are approaching the time of year when people will begin to break out their swimsuits, jet skis, and boats.  It will be summer again soon.  And if you ride the city bus here in Jacksonville, don't forget to take your umbrella with you every single day.   That is because the sun can be harsh.  Not only that, but you'll need your umbrella to protect you from the daily summer thunderstorms.  Don't expect to find shelter at a bus stop.  That's because less than 5 percent of the bus stops in Jacksonville have a shelter.

Wednesday, 27 December 2006

Above Image: An illustration of Calgary, AB's $280 million two block courthouse complex, currently under construction.

The City of Jacksonville has recently selected the design-build firm, Auchter/Perry McCall to design the first phase of the long delayed Duval County Courthouse project. The first phase will include a 388,000 square foot, criminal courts structure, estimated to cost $140 million. Construction is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2007. Lets hope that the team of Auchter/Perry McCall has enough design skill and talent to come up with a master site plan and courthouse layout that works for both the courthouse complex and downtown's redevelopment. In the spirit of getting rid of the CBD's largest crater, the following courthouse projects are examples of what type of county courthouse buildings money can buy in the era of rapidly rising construction prices.

It's Official: Parking Laws Change Print E-mail
Friday, 15 December 2006

Yesterday the Mayor (and a staff of thousands) came over and made the first truly breathtaking change in downtown policy since the Faustian 1971 Plan for Utopia.

You would have to go back to the Haydon Burns Administration before you found anything as fundamental as Parking being changed significantly. Even the massive cash hemorrhaging from the corporate welfare of the 80s and 90s pales in comparison to the actual numbers of Jacksonville citizens who will be directly affected by this change.
