The Springfield Heritage Throwback Baseball Game was held on May 5th in Klutho Park. It was put together over a series of months through the efforts of many Springfield residents. Originally, SPAR had intended to put on a softball game for the weekend event, and a group of residents thought to take it to the next level. Initially we were going to only play softball in the old time uniforms, but several people thought we could pull off a baseball game with vintage equipment as well. |

Although not as heavily promoted as it should be, San Marco Square is an artsy shopping, dining and entertainment district just south of downtown. It has become one of Metropolitan Jacksonville's trendiest shopping and dining destinations. |

The extremely controversial and long delayed Dancey Terrace has finally opened a model home to the public. These twenty-four 1,000 square foot bungalows were slated for demolition, but were saved by half of the Springfield constituents (to the dismay of the other half). |

The Downtown Art Walk, which is held the first Wednesday of each month, had a strong turnout. Despite this strong showing, Tony Allegretti was expecting 50,000 people and a few celebrities, so he must be a little disappointed right now. Maybe next month... |

Opened in the mid 1950's, and after going through a period of decline from 1988 to 1994, the 630,000sf Gateway Mall is well on its way to making a comeback. While you won't find the Gaps and Cheesecake Factories of the world here, you will discover a center that has been recreated to serve the needs of the surrounding communities. |

Established in 1866 to educate newly freed slaves, Edward Waters College is Florida's oldest independent college and first historically black university. Its also Jacksonville's only university to fully embrace the idea of an urban campus that opens up and embraces it's context, instead of turning it's back to the surrounding community. |

 Situated on the corner of Main and State Streets, the Park View Inn has become one of the most problematic pieces of property in the core of Jacksonville. In its current state, it is a blight that hinders progress in both Springfield and Downtown. Plagued by ground contamination from the former Coal Gasification plant previously on the site, all past redevelopment efforts have failed. Can this building ever be something to be proud of? |
