What's In Store For Tommorrow

Join the Jacksonville Historical Society as we present a series of pop up events depicting historical events in our city that have gone largely untold.

On Saturday, July 21st, we will commemorate the anniversary of one of Jacksonville's most astonishing and little known historical events. Sponsored by the Jacksonville Historical Society, this celebration will itself be an amazing and slightly quirky event, since the historical subject and the exact location will not be announced until right before the event takes place. Using social media to spread the announcement, the event will 'pop up' just in time for hundreds of people to attend.

There will be a historical presentation and video program, a parade, a historical scavenger hunt, and a grand prize. This FREE and exciting event will start at 1:00pm and last until 2:30pm. Participants are encouraged to eat lunch at this event -- an old-fashioned lunch truck will be on-site serving hot meals and cold drinks for a small fee, and there will be BEER!

So bring your curiosity (and a metal detector, if you can borrow one), and pop some history with us. Sign up on our Facebook page to get plugged in and find out how to be part of this surprising and history-making event.

Check Jax Pop Up History for details and location. We'll be there chowing down on helipad sliders and getting historical!

This is going to be a really fun event.  There is a lot of history in Jacksonville that has gone largely untold.  These pop up history book events will be a way to showcase the rich history of our city.  Grab some lunch from a cool food truck and learn something new.

Follow the event and learn more details tomorrow morning at http://www.facebook.com/jaxpopuphistory

Wow - we want to participate, but we must be the only people on the plant not subscribing to social media other than email.  We do not own a cell phone and are not on facebook.  How can two ol' dinosaurs participate?

How was this event? I was supposed to go but missed out. My grandfather went, as he lived on Post Street at the time. I hear there was a good turnout.
