June 15, 2009, 09:08:48 AMMan, I sure hope so. Should go a long way to improve the perception that all construction has seemingly sceased, especially because it will be so close to the highway.

June 15, 2009, 11:06:53 AMfinally a low rise building that no one will ever notice yes!!

June 15, 2009, 11:31:22 AMThat isn't considered a low-rise, that is a mid-rise first off. Secondly, how can it not be noticed, it's right beside the FW Bridge.

June 15, 2009, 12:24:22 PMI was at the Hospital Thursday and they were clearing the site of some recent demolition.

June 15, 2009, 12:39:45 PMBy most of the standards I can find 12 stories 195 feet is either the upper end of mid rise or lower end of high rise.

June 15, 2009, 01:08:12 PMBy code standards it is considered a highrise building.

June 15, 2009, 03:10:09 PMI wonder if this means the 4 story office building will be moving forward as well?

June 15, 2009, 03:19:19 PMI noticed today that they are clearing a large lot just south of I-95, between Baptist and San Marco Blvd. I wonder if it will be used for parking.

June 15, 2009, 04:27:12 PMWell, maybe the credit lines are easing and the economy is recovering; this is good news not only for the Southbank but hopefully for the other projects that were put on the shelf as well.

June 15, 2009, 04:29:13 PMI like it, the architecture that is, it's not a high rise, tall or super tall but I'll take it. It has to be noticed...look at it's location, right next to I-95 on the Southbank.

June 16, 2009, 06:56:55 AMI'm just appalled that this design went to Atlanta instead of staying local. I hate to see decent projects always going out of town for the design. Can anyone teach me as to why this seems to continue to happen???

June 16, 2009, 10:36:19 AMIt is a good design and a positive addition to the Southbank/San Marco area. It is amazing how people can negatively criticize good design and economic growth in this economy.
hightowerlover: being tall doesn't make a building good, but it does call attention to it's bad design. You need to learn a little bit about architecture and design prior to making uninformed public comments.
Hurricane: I agree with you, but unfortunately Jacksonville doesn't have a strong group of truely local healthcare architects. GSP is the only one and they are actually based out of Nashville, TN. A hospital is a highly specialized building where long term experience is needed, so it is understandable why they felt they needed to look beyond our city limits, its unfortunate, by understandable.

June 16, 2009, 11:40:45 AMI like the design but I don't mind other opions. Gives us more to talk about. Diffrent people bring diverse points of veiw. You do not need to be an expert to express what you do or do not like. I myself would love to see more big buildings in town.

June 17, 2009, 09:21:56 PMAccording to the Building Construction engineers, this project was dead a month ago. Did the city all of a sudden come alive because of the downtown fountain? Who knows, but DVI gets paid to spread good news about downtown. Just be careful to make sure you chew this news, it may just be hot air.

June 17, 2009, 09:42:35 PMYeah, move dirt around for years, we will call it the Southside courthouse. LOL!

June 18, 2009, 06:25:31 PMyay a 12 story box that has the visual interest of a box of windows. its a boring hospital wing addition, nothing to get too excited about. no ones going to ooh and ah over our 12 story hospital. if anything it detracts from the only building with any visual interest to it. the childrens hospital, at least that had an iconic roofline before you slapped a big ugly box behind it.

June 18, 2009, 07:01:51 PMOf course, this isn't the Southside.
Last time I checked, a mostly glass facade doesn't strike me as an ugly box, unless you're trying to compare it to the AvMed Building. Nice judging when you're going off renderings btw(roll eyes).
