They've been working on this for several months and their opening's moved back one month, as they first said it would be in February....I'm excited about this, and am anxious for it to open!

Good catch...I didn't notice that this morning, pre-coffee vision...

Good for Springfield I hope they support this.  I am always skeptical about a coffee house without a drive through. I like the walk in atmosphere but the window will make the money.

When you think about it, most of the decent coffee shops don't have a drive thru. Just like the place on the next block, Tommy's does a fantastic business and they're not drive thru. This new one will have a different variety on it's menu and it's decor looks to be inviting for people to sit and relax....so this will draw a different crowd.

I live just down the street and have been watching the progress made, I've met the gentlemen who own it and it's very tastefully done...this will be a great asset to our neighborhood!

That's a nice looking building - how come we haven't knocked it down yet?

JeffreyS

I agree the better coffee houses do not seem to have drive thrus. I just want one because I work but I do not live in the area.

I'm sure you'll be able to get in and out quick enough....and if it turns out to be as good as it sounds, it might be worth leaving the house a few minutes earlier....know what I mean?

Funny you should mention that....when the city takes forever to knock down the ones that really need to go and level the ones that don't.

That used to be a church, believe it or not....and once they get things really settled in, they'll have the patio out back to enjoy.

With all due respect, that kind of strip mall thinking is exactly what's wrong with this place. For a lively residential neighborhood to develop, a corner coffee joint (and other businesses) should only cater to the nearby residents and the walk in crowd. Leave your car at home. Please! Wink

Looks great!  Where is the other coffee house in Springfield?

When we get that commuter train out to Fleming Island I promise to leave the car at home.  I hope I wasn't overly critical I had the Coffee shop across from panther creek close and that was bad for my commute. I went in but lots of people didn't and now it's the gas station in the morning for me.

It's not really a coffee house, it's more a quick breakfast shop...Tommys at 1540 Walnut....the 'breakfast in a bowl' or something like that...it's good, quick breakfast food.

Isn't making coffee at home pretty easy? No one seems to do that.

It's not the coffee, it's the experience Wink  Something about walking into a place with dim lighting, big, cushy seats, people on laptops, laid-back folk music playing in the background, and the smell of strong espresso just does something.  To recreate that at home would be more work than it's worth.  Although, if I still lived in Riverside, sitting on my front porch on a warm summer morning watching the people walk by with a cuppa in my hand is a close second Grin

I cannot wait until this coffee house opens.  Everything that these two guys touch, turns to gold. They are dedicated to making things the best they can be... and this coffee house will NO DOUBT be a success.

I love the idea of the realty company being adjoined. This property will truly be an asset to the neighborhood.

CAN'T WAIT GUYS!

You can get a sneak peak, along with free coffee and cake at this Thursday's SAMBA meeting.  Three Layers is the host and will be giving a presentation on their new business.

If you can afford to make good coffee at home go for it.  This is what you'll need.

Triple Reverse osmosis water filteration center maintained, checked and calibrated daily by trained staff.
Horribly expensive commercial coffee making maintaining hot water to excatly 200 degree F.
You'll need freshly ground coffee of the highest quality.
Preferribly a gold filter (gold just hit 1,000 an ounce)

Or just brew some maxwell house (no offense) using recycled human waste water from your local municpality without any additional filtering, recycled newspaper coffee filters, heating the "water" to god  knows what temp and poising yourself all the same with the carcinogens that the colorine didn't kill.

If that's the way roll  Wink

It probably has to do with I had just paid $8.00 at starbucks for that horrible Honey Latte and that crumb and streusel  (I don't know the difference) treat which I ended up getting the wrong one...I wanted the one with the red things it but I got the Cinnamon one.  I didn't say anything because that's the way I roll.  I just take it and the rant on my fellow bloggers.  Sort of passive agresive I know.

ROFLMAO.  Ok, the honey latte just freakin SOUNDS gross.  I dont' know why you would order that to begin with, and then on top of that having some sugar-laden pseudo-pastry???  You gotta find a coffee house and stick to it so they know your name and drink when you walk in the door.  I'm a star at the one on S'side and Baymeadows Grin  I don't even have to say a thing when I walk in, just pay, grab my coffee and go.  Oh, and all the "treats" are all shipped in and full of preservatives anyhow.  You don't want any of that.  I make one mean cupcake, all organic.  THAT's what you should be munchin with your Maxwell House.

gatorback

March 11, 2008, 05:00:02 PM

Great!  That $8.00 would have been $10.50 for all organic.  I know this because I shop at whole foods and they are not inexpensive.

Well rant away Gator!  I'll take my home's fitration system water run through a coffe pot full of my hometown Maxwell House coffe over Starbucks any day.  Gotta support my homies, especially if they pump out a good brew.  Wink

The owner gave me a quick tour Friday and it looks great. See everyone there Monday morning. They will be open this weekend also.

Sean or Shawn said he and his partner moved here from Atlanta.  They love springfield and cakes will be the specialty.

The normal hours of operation will be Tues-Sunday 7am-11am and 5pm-9pm. CLOSED ON MONDAYS.

Mondays are probably the single most important day for coffee drinkers.  It helps to motivate them and increase "chipperness" on what many say is the worst day of the week.  If I didn't have my coffee on Monday morning I would likely hurt someone or myself.  Smiley

I visited Three Layers this morning and I was impressed.  The inside and outside look great and the coffee was good too.  I think this really bodes well for the surrounding neighborhood too.  Perhaps retail in Springfield will begin its resurgence first in the interior of the neighborhood and only later make it to Main Street.  Springfielders (and other Jacksonville urbanites) should definitely support this place.
